About WholeLifeLog

WholeLifeLog helps you plan, track and reflect on a personal goal in 40-day challenges. This page answers the questions we hear most. For the full legal wording, see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Subscription (Apple In-App Purchase)

What does the subscription do?

A subscription lets you join Circles: optional groups of adults (18+) who work on a similar kind of practice and share the practices they complete, without their names being shown. Everything else in the app works without a subscription (see "What is free" below).

How do I subscribe, and who takes the payment?

You subscribe inside the app, from a Circle's page, through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple handles the payment: we never see your card or your Apple ID. The price and billing period shown on the purchase screen come straight from the App Store. We use RevenueCat to confirm the purchase, and our server checks the result itself before it opens a Circle for you.

How do I cancel or restore it?

  • Cancel in your device's subscription settings (on an iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions). Deleting your WholeLifeLog account does not cancel an Apple subscription.
  • Restore with the "Restore purchases" button on the subscription screen, signed in to the same WholeLifeLog account you bought with. Use it after reinstalling the app or switching to a new phone.

What happens when a subscription ends?

You can no longer join or move between Circles. Your journal, your plans and your backup are not affected. A Circle manager whose subscription ends is paused (a bot keeps the Circle running) and, after 30 days, stepped down from managing.

Progress, streaks and badges

What is the 40-day map?

Your journey is 40 days on one map. A day counts as practiced when you mark it done, or mark a smaller version of it ("minimum"); a day you miss is just left empty. Each practice has its own mark (a star, a heart, a leaf and so on) that appears on the days you did it, and you can choose it on the "Start a new practice" screen. There are no scores, levels or rankings, and nothing is taken away for a missed day.

Where do I see how I am doing?

  • Today shows the day, today's practice and the whole map.
  • Record has three views: weekly pages, a history with the week-by-week reflections, and the yearly area (a 365-day checklist, a 52-week reflection and a life map) that opens after 30 practiced days.
  • Badges. There are 100 achievement badges in ten themes. They are earned only from what you actually recorded (they are never a claim you make), and the app works out each one on your device. Places for your Today scene and extra "bonus" practices open as your practiced days add up.

What is a Circle's temperature?

Each Circle shows a number from 0 to 100 and a colour, from blue (quiet) to red (lively). It is built from counts only: how many members practised, shared and reacted in the last 7 days. It never says who.

Your data and security

Where is my journal stored?

On your device. Your plans, logs, notes and reflections stay on your phone and are not sent to us unless you turn on backup or choose to share a completed practice in a Circle.

How does backup protect me?

Backup is optional. When you back up, the app turns your journal into a file and encrypts it on your device (AES-256-GCM, with a key derived from a passphrase you choose, using PBKDF2) before uploading. We store the encrypted file but never receive your passphrase, so we cannot read it. That also means we cannot recover a forgotten passphrase: write it down somewhere safe.

Can I lock the app?

Yes. You can set a 6-digit PIN that the app asks for when it opens. It is kept on your device. You can also export your data (a PDF workbook, JSON, CSV, or an encrypted ZIP) at any time, even offline.

What do Circles see?

Nothing is sent for Circles until you agree in the app, and your date of birth never leaves your device (we only receive "18 or older: yes"). If you share a completed practice, other members see its title, and its note only if you add one, without your name or any account details. Managers see titles and times, never who practised and never your notes. Please keep contact details and other sensitive information out of titles, notes and Circle names.

How do I delete my data?

Use "Delete account" in the app: it removes your backup, your Circle records, your messages sent while signed in, and then your sign-in account. You can also email wholelifelog@gmail.com. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what we keep and for how long.

What is free

What do I get without paying?

  • Your first 40-day journey: a dream, a daily practice, daily check-ins, weekly plans and reflections, the history and the 40-day map.
  • Your own Today scene: places to choose from, a traveler you dress, and background music in some places.
  • The yearly area (365-day checklist, 52-week reflection, dreams list and life map) after 30 practiced days.
  • Encrypted backup and restore, export, and the PIN lock.
  • Browsing the list of Circles.

What needs a subscription?

Joining a Circle (and moving to another one), and starting or managing one.

What is coming later?

More 40-day journeys (planned as a one-time unlock, not a subscription) and profiles for children (with a parent or guardian in charge) are planned but not open yet. We will announce them when they are.
